Kilbrannan Farm

Situated at the base of the Takitimu Mountian range and with views across to Fiordland National Park, the 358ha Kilbrannan Farm truly has one of the best ‘office’ views around.

Paul and Tracey Ruddenklau took over the management of Kilbrannan Farm in 2003, taking on what was then a dilapidated property with run down pasture and soil, this in turn leading to extremely poor animal health. After not seeing any improvements using standard conventional farming methods a new approach was needed. In 2005 Kilbrannan started conversion to organics under the Biogro certification programme gaining full certification in 2008.

Centre to the organic system run at Kilbrannan Farm is an excellent understanding of what is going on in the soil. You can’t grow healthy stock if you don’t have healthy plants, which can only come from healthy soil.

Kilbrannan Farm has gone from a seriously rundown property to a fully self-sufficient property all without the use of pesticides, insecticides or herbicides, and that’s something to be pretty proud of.

Kilbrannan Farm is currently running 2460 Perendale ewes, 620 Hoggets and 90 trading Cattle.
